Meet our 2022 Scholarship Winner

Congratulations Michael Cobb!

RadiFi is proud to announce Michael Cobb as the winner of our 2022 Annual Scholarship. He is an incoming senior at Florida A&M University with a major in accounting. Michael has been an active member of the National Association of Black Accountants, Panda Express Panda Cares program, and Big Brother Little Brother. He has been a member of RadiFi since 2014.

Michael’s Winning Essay

“Save your money, because it will save you.” The quote is one that I live by day in and day out. Often in life unforeseen emergencies will arise and money is pivotal in taking care of these emergencies so that they do not escalate into larger issues. I have had a bank account with RadiFi (formerly Jax Federal Credit Union) since I turned 16 and got my first job. The employee who helped me open my account emphasized to me the benefits of putting money aside and being financially sound. However, the importance of savings really did not truly impact me until I moved into my own apartment in college and began paying rent. During the summer prior to moving in I worked two jobs, one with Jacksonville Electric Authority as well as an Amazon warehouse. I was able to save more money than I had ever seen before, and I knew I would need to provide for myself while also paying for rent and gas. When I moved into my apartment everything was going well until car problems started to arise. My first car needed repairs left and right. In just three months I had to purchase a new fuel pump, alternator, and belt for my vehicle. If it had not been for me saving money during the summer, I would have never been able to pay for rent, groceries, gas and car repair while not having a job. I appreciated money more now that my savings had saved me.
